2nd Annual Maker Faire Lake County Calls for Innovators

Creative minds return to the College of Lake County’s Grayslake campus on Saturday, April 9 for the 2nd annual Maker Faire Lake County, a show-and-tell for innovative designers, makers, builders, and DIYers.

To apply to become a Maker at the event, register for free before March 18 at www.clcillinois.edu/makerfaire.

Maker Faire celebrates the multi-faceted fields of making, perfect for creative Lake County kids and adults – from engineers to scientists to crafters. The event also features CLC’s home for makers, the Baxter Innovation Lab, which opened in 2018.

Innovations can be hobbies, experiments or projects, ranging from human-powered machines and drones to electronic clothing and textiles. Other ideas may come from the following areas: scientific, biological and chemical projects; electric vehicles; interactive art and technology; kites; puppets; robotics; rockets; or sustainability and green technology. Ideas can also be digital fabrication, including 3D printing, computerized numerical control programming, and laser technology.

Before Maker Fair, Make-a-Thon will take place on Saturday March 12. This one-day coding workshop is for makers in grades 5 through adults and culminates in a team competition. Mentoring and technical assistance will be provided by CLC engineering interns. All Make-a-Thon projects will be showcased at Maker Faire Lake County where attendees will vote for the winners. Visit www.clcillinois.edu/events/makerevents for more information and to register.

The Lake County Robotics Competition for grades 7-12 will also be held at Maker Faire Lake County. Visit www.clcillinois.edu/events/lcrc for more information and to register, email Rob Twardock at [email protected]

Maker Faire applications will be reviewed by a committee and all applicants will be notified of approval. For more information, including how to respond to the call for makers, visit the website above or email [email protected]

On the same day as Maker Faire, CLC is hosting an Open House on all three campuses from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
