Smart sports device maker Suunto embarks on new partnership with Penrite Racing

Suunto makes smart sports watches, dive computers and precision instruments, and it has made its first foray into Australian motorsport, with its stellar sports watches added to Penrite’s high-performance programme.

The Penrite Racing team traveled to the land of the rise of Finnish sports tech powerhouse Suunto. Suunto has announced its sponsorship of Australian racing team Penrite Racing.

Supporting its drivers and high performance team in practice and racing in this year’s Australian Supercar Championship season, Suunto says its latest partnership “further shows its ambition to use its proven sports watches to support a great variety of athletes from different sports and endurance.”

Penrite Racing’s first race of the season takes place in Sydney on the weekend of March 4-6 as part of the Beaurepaires Sydney SuperNight, part of the Supercars Racing series.

We’re told this “marks the first opportunity for riders and high-performance personnel to track detailed metrics in training and during the race using Suunto watches. After an aggressive period for new partnerships, Suunto’s new relationship with the team once again proves how its product offerings can benefit from a wide range of experiences and withstand the toughest challenges, whether whether by car or on foot.

Gavan Wills, Commercial Director of Penrite Racing, said: “As we enter our inaugural season, we are delighted to have Suunto on our side to provide their trusted sports watches to our riders and team. Their experience and performance in the most extreme sports really lends itself to Supercars and Motorsport and we look forward to Suunto helping us improve our performance throughout the year.”

Damian Commane, Head of Suunto ANZ, added: “No matter the challenge or the aspiration, our watches are designed for any end, whether it’s a walk in the park or a run. at lightning speed. Our sponsorship with Penrite Racing aims to deliver on that promise, and we hope our contribution will prepare the team for a great year ahead.”

As a key part of the partnership, drivers will be equipped with Suunto’s flagship 9 Peak sports watches. As well as providing broader health monitoring and fitness tracking capabilities, Suunto says drivers will also optimize the dedicated motorsport mode in the watch, enabling detailed tracking metrics and the ability to record. lap times.

Naturally, the companies note that the sponsorship follows an ambitious and successful year for Suunto and Grove Racing.

In the past six months alone, Suunto has supplied its sports watches to the ultra-local 1000 Miles to Light race, New Zealand-based Super Rugby team the Hurricanes, and most recently the Obstacle Course military-inspired True Grit.

Melbourne-based team Penrite Racing had a great year in 2021 with the integration of several shareholders ahead of the upcoming season.
