Tasmania Skilled Migration Program 2022-23 Update: Eligibility Checker and More

On Monday, September 12, 2022, Tasmania’s Skilled Migration State Appointment Program opened to Gold and Green pass applicants.

As of September 19, 2022, Migration Tasmania has announced additional updates to this program.

Eligibility checker now available

If you are unsure of your eligibility for Tasmania nomination, the Tasmania Migration Qualified Candidate Nomination Eligibility Checker is now available. With this tool, you can find the most appropriate nomination path, as well as understand any additional priority attributes you may have.

Additions to Tasmania’s Skilled Shore Occupations List (TOSOL)

In early September, additional occupations were added to industry sectors, including computing and computing, and engineering and infrastructure.

Now 141311 Hotel or Motel Manager has been added to the TOSOL. This means that candidates with a skills assessment for this occupation will be eligible for appointment to Subclass 190 in the Tasmanian skilled employment pathway after working in a closely related role for 6 months in Tasmania, or for the appointment of subclass 491 after 3 months. They may also qualify for additional priority attributes in other lanes.

Tasmania’s Skilled Occupations Onshore List (TOSOL) can be found here.

Common reasons for not being invited to apply

During the current intermediate phase of the Tasmanian Skilled Migration State Nomination Scheme, applicants must meet the minimum requirements for one of the nomination pathways published on the Migration Tasmania website and have at least one of the gold or green attributes listed for this path.

Candidates who do not meet the minimum requirements or have a green or gold attribute will not be invited to apply for nomination and will not be contacted.

Migration Tasmania has published some common reasons why applicants were not invited to this stage, including:

  • Did not meet the minimum eligibility criteria

Some applicants seeking appointment in the Subclass 190 Tasmanian Skilled Employment pathway have had less than six months of employment related to their skills assessment, which is a requirement of this pathway.

  • Tasmanian Skilled Graduate Pathway – job posting related to skills assessment or study of Tasmania

Some candidates rely on a recently started job as a “job offer”. To qualify for this priority attribute, the job must not yet have started.

Applicants with a job offer but who have not yet started that job should indicate this on their attached CV.

  • Incomplete Expressions of Interest (EOI) and Curriculum Vitae

Expressions of Interest and CVs should indicate the occupation used to claim eligibility for nomination and priority attributes. The full details of the EOI should be attached, not the score summary table.

  • Only Skilled Jobs (ANZSCO Skill Levels 1-3) are eligible for Gold or Green attributes

Some applicants claim gold or green attributes for education-related employment that do not meet the ANZSCO standard of proficiency levels 1-3.

For example, Elderly/Individual Support Workers, Extended Care Assistants and Nursing Assistants are categorized into ANZSCO Skill Level 4 roles.

  • Skilled employment or commercial exploitation related to studies.

To claim the green attribute for employment or operating a business related to a graduate’s studies in Tasmania, the course must have direct professional relevance.

For example, this would include an engineering graduate working as an engineer or a hotel management graduate working as a front desk manager. It would not include a graduate in business management or leadership running a café unless the course has a direct, verifiable and relevant specialization in hospitality.

  • Overseas Skilled Occupation Profiles course (foreign candidates who do not have a job offer).

Candidates wishing to be appointed on the Skilled Occupation Overseas Profiles track should first be contacted by Migration Tasmania via SkillSelect. This contact person provides instructions on how to submit a nomination request.

An invitation to apply for this pathway will not be issued if Migration Tasmania has not already made contact through SkillSelect.

Candidates without a green or gold attribute

Applicants who meet the minimum requirements but do not have a gold or green attribute will be able to apply for Tasmania’s Skilled Migration Program in October 2022.
